Hydrolux announces the first two Project 117 stations

VAL‑D’OR, July 5, 2022 – Hydrolux unveils “Project 117.” The project aims to equip the Route 117 corridor with two green hydrogen refuelling stations enabling heavy-duty trucks to travel between Greater Montréal and Abitibi‑Témiscamingue.

The stations announced in Val‑d’Or and Saint‑Jérôme were to provide refuelling at pressures of 350 bar or 700 bar. Although the project was designed primarily for heavy-duty trucking, motorists using hydrogen-powered cars were also expected to be able to refuel there.

Each station was to include a 5 MW PEM electrolyzer, with capacity that could be increased as demand grew. In its initial phase, the project was presented as capable of avoiding nearly 7.6 million litres of diesel per year, equivalent to more than 20,000 tonnes of CO₂.

Energy efficiency

Hydrolux also indicated that it was working with collaborators to recover and use the waste heat generated by green hydrogen production. This heat was expected to replace part of the natural gas used to heat commercial and industrial buildings.
