This English translation is provided for convenience; the French version prevails in the event of any discrepancy. This release is reproduced in its historical context and accurately reflects the information available at the time of publication. Hydrolux now presents Trans‑Québec 1 as an eight-location network; the text below reflects the original 2023 announcement.

VAL‑D’OR, October 4, 2023 – Hydrolux unveils the “Trans‑Québec 1” project. The announced project consists of seven green hydrogen refuelling stations for heavy-duty trucking across Québec, located in Val‑d’Or, Saint‑Jérôme, Lévis, Saguenay, Rivière‑du‑Loup, Mont‑Laurier and Coteau‑du‑Lac.

Trans‑Québec 1 is presented as a structuring network enabling Québec carriers to conduct interregional transport across a vast territory representing nearly 97% of Québec’s population.

Each announced station was to be equipped with a 5 MW electrolyzer whose capacity could subsequently be doubled to keep pace with demand growth. Once fully deployed, the project was expected to avoid nearly 155,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

“With its seven stations, the Trans‑Québec 1 project will become the backbone of green hydrogen refuelling for heavy transport in Québec, thereby contributing to the growth of this sector, which is essential to decarbonizing heavy transport.”
Friedrich Dehem‑Lemelin, President and CEO of Hydrolux

Trans‑Québec 1: an evolution of Project 117

On July 5, 2022, Hydrolux had announced Project 117, which included two green hydrogen refuelling stations in Val‑d’Or and Saint‑Jérôme. Inspired by Project 117, Trans‑Québec 1 expanded the announced network at the time from two to seven stations.

The project contributes to decarbonization and regional economic development by offering an alternative to fossil fuels that accounts for regional geographic and economic realities.
